When you think of Mexico, Tequila of course comes to mind. But what if you are a wine-lover living in Puerto Vallarta? Although traditionally Mexicans have not consumed wine to the same degree as Americans and Canadians, that is slowly changing. In Puerto Vallarta, retailers cater to this change in fashion and to foreign residents by offering ever increasing and varied wine selections. Here are some of our favorite places to buy wine in Puerto Vallarta.
Grocery Stores: what could be more convenient than picking up a bottle or two as you do your weekly grocery shopping? The Mega, Walmart and Soriana all carry a reasonable selection of low to mid price range bottles, mainly from Mexican, Chilean and Argentinian wineries.
Costco: why buy just one bottle, when a case is so conveniently available? Costco is a popular spot for wines with everything from affordable table wines to Dom Perignon and Krystal for special occasions.
La Europea: located in Marina Vallarta, this specialty shop has a wonderful selection of domestic and imported red, white and sparkling wine as well as a deli section and freshly baked breads, perfect for a picnic on the beach.
Vinos Las Americas: hit up this chic wine shop on Basilio Badillo for a nice selection of both red and whites, plus several bottles already chilled and ready to go.
Vinoteca: the new kid on the wine scene, Vinoteca just opened their slick wine shop last year and have an excellent and ever changing selection of international wines available as well as a deli counter.
